Effective Stress Reduction & Comforting Treatments

My goal is to assist clients with aiding in the healing process for those seeking immediate relief from painful conditions and muscle tension, people working to get rid of chronic pain that has been ailing them for months or years, to assist with injury rehabilitation as well as with clients who do not have specific issues.

Some clients may be seen twice a week and others once a week. Everyone is different and each session may be different based on the individual needs of the client at the time of assessment before each service. Some clients enjoy slow gliding strokes to help them relax, and others prefer deep sustained pressure and stretching.

Worked successfully with clients seeking:

Therapy Services:

Sports Therapy and Bodywork is tailored to your body’s unique needs and can incorporate several modalities so the benefits of the session lasts long after your session is done.

The following are common terms used in my practice that describes a signature approach of manual therapy applications.

Swedish Massage:

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is the most popular and familiar massage method being practiced today, which comprises of the manipulations on the muscles and connective soft tissue of the body for the purpose of relaxation, rehabilitation, and health maintenance. It is comprised of five basic strokes and their variations: effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), friction (cross fiber), percussion (rhythmic tapping), and vibration.

This modality aids in the increases blood circulation, thus enhancing delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the tissues. It also increases lymph circulation, which speeds up the removal of metabolic waste and lactic acid from tired, sore, inflamed muscles. Massage aids in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and promoting relaxation. This modality can be combined with other therapies.

Sports Massage:

A large number of athletes (competitive and/or weekend warriors) are incorporating Sports Massage into their regimen which helps improve circulation, flexibility and range of motion, decreased recovery time from competition and training, injury prevention, increased muscular efficiency and increased physical awareness and to be able to repeat the process decreasing the chance of muscle fatigue and strain.

This modality can be used in a combination of techniques such as Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, Stretching and more. Each technique is appropriately used according to the needs of the individual. Massage helps by breaking down adhesions which allows muscles and tendons to release from inefficiency and are free to glide the way they were designed.

Deep Tissue:

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a manual therapy that loosens adhered fascial tissue embedded in the deeper layers of muscle. This entails careful steady pressure within the specified area allowing (the hand, fingers, elbow) access to sink in and break up the adhered fascia/muscles and reducing fascial restriction on all levels.

Trigger Point:

Trigger points are highly irritated bands of tissue located in or along a muscle. The small point of irritation can cause tightness throughout the entire muscle and can possibly cause referred pain throughout different areas of the body.

The symptoms of trigger points can vary from local discomfort in the muscle, to headaches, numbness, tingling, and restricted mobility. Sometimes trigger points can even mimic or be one of the causes of repetitive stress injuries. Trigger Point Massage can be extremely effective at relieving these symptoms.

Myofascial Therapy:

Myofascial Therapy

Myofascial release is a technique specifically aimed at facilitating positive change within the connective tissue in the body known as fascia. Fascia is a pervasive tissue in the body, which sometimes thickens and forms adhesions when there is trauma caused by repetitive motion, injury, or sitting in one position for long periods of time. Healthy, flexible fascia means better circulation, better tissue nutrition, and better movement within the body and muscle systems. Poor function in the fascia will cause pain and stiffness.

To release the fascia a method of gentle stretching of restricted soft tissues and fascial constraints using specific positioning held allowing the fascial restriction to unwind and lengthen. This work can be very relaxing, and is appropriate for a wide range of clients in conjunction with other modalities to provide the most effective therapeutic session possible.

Kinesio Taping:

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Taping is used for muscle and joint support to improve sports performance, for correctional purposes, injury rehab and can be worn during active and non-active movement. Is Latex-free and can be wearable for days at a time.

The Kinesio Taping "KT" Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits.

Kinesio Tape aides in alleviating pain and facilitating lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin.  This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.
